Siri’s New Role in Accessing / Logging Health Data

siri access log health data

Siri has recently gained a new capability in WatchOS 10.2, allowing users to seamlessly access and log their health data using the voice assistant. This development marks a significant step forward, as Siri can now handle health-related queries and assist users in tracking various aspects of their well-being.

Users can now utilize Siri to inquire about health-related data, ranging from fitness goals to sleep patterns. Additionally, Siri enables users to log information such as medications, vitamins, period symptoms, blood sugar readings, and more. This enhanced functionality is made possible by the new S9 chip in the Series 9/Ultra 2, which enables Siri to process these queries directly on the device without the need to send data to the cloud.

Previously, privacy restrictions hindered Siri’s ability to respond to health-related queries, as conventional voice assistants typically offloaded such requests to the cloud, posing potential privacy risks for sensitive health information. With the introduction of the S9 chip, Siri can now handle these tasks without compromising user privacy, as the data remains on the device.

To access Siri Health queries, users in English (US) and Mandarin (Mainland) can take advantage of this feature, while it is not yet available for UK users. Enabling this functionality requires a simple setup process. On the Apple Watch, users can open the Settings app, select Health, go to Apps and Services, and toggle on “Allow Siri Access to Health Data.”

To install this update, users need to ensure they have watchOS 10.2, which should be available for download on their Apple Watch. The update can be accessed through the Watch companion app or directly in the Settings on the Apple Watch. It’s important to note that Siri’s ability to handle health queries requires the S9 chip, meaning users must be using Series 9 or Ultra 2 for this feature to be functional.
